Just face up to it now – the budget is a driving, deciding factor in planning all wedding events.

Now that you have faced that fact, you need to love your budget so that your budget loves you. If you know where you are financially you will know what you can and cannot do and know that there will be no negative consequences to hosting one of the most important events of your life.

So first thing first, you need to figure out what your budget is…
  • How much will your parents contribute? Siblings? Other relatives? Your own savings fund?
  • How much will you partner’s side contribute?
  • How much will you contribute?

I recommend having 3 numbers:
  • Ideal budget
  • Stretch budget
  • 'Must Stop' budget

It sounds crass, but you need to know the numbers to avoid problems later. After all, as I have mentioned several times before, this is an emotional time, and one less thing to set people off is good.

Thank of how good it feels when your matters of the wallet are at peace. This question does not need to follow you around throughout your entire wedding planning process. Solve it early. Solve it correctly. The rest becomes much easier.

Once you have your number, double check your wedding plan. Can you invite X people for X budget?
