Today we are going to learn how to select your wedding date from the 365 days available in a year.

Often the first thing you are asked when others learned you're engaged is 'When is the wedding?'
And often times you have no idea what the answer is.

You have come to the right place for answers. We take a Clarity Based Approach to guiding you through the process so you not only get answers, you get the Right answers for You.

The truth is, that is a very big decision, balancing two people's schedules, plus family, plus society, plus venue availability, and did I mention it affects budget too? It can feel a bit overwhelming, but that is why WE are here to hold your hand through this journey. Let's start with a few basics.

Of course if you already have your dream wedding date picked out, you can skip ahead.
Here are a few 'bite size' ideas to respond to...
  • Do you picture getting married in a winter wonderland? Evergreens and Christmas lights in the background. A little bit of risk with the weather
  • Want to take pictures in the park with lots of buds and flowers?
  • Love the long day of sunshine? The hot weather.
  • Are you picturing a vacation feel of a three day weekend with friends and family?
  • Is your ideal date the date of your first meeting, first kiss, the proposal, your birthday?

If you are not sure what you want, or still deciding, then feel it out.
Sometimes it can help to sort out what you Don't want, so get out the ‘veto’ pen and see what you like and what you don’t like. If there isn't a strong preference, that is fine – knowing where you have flexibility and were you have a strong preference is a good thing.

Here are the categories to help narrow the field:

Choose the days of the week

This may seem 'obvious' to you, but it is important to think it through so that you are planning intentionally instead of just following what you've seen others do.
The majority of couples prefer to get married on a Saturday.
  • Saturday is often the most 'free' day for those working conventional schedules. If this is not you (say you are a musician who does gigs on Saturdays), then feel free to have your wedding any day, any time!
  • Some choose to have weddings on Friday / Sunday as there may be religious reasons, or financial reasons. Keep in mind that if you are planning a more involved event, your family or VIPs may need to take a day off of work to be there for you fully.
  • Some choose to have their wedding on a date that is meaningful to them despite the 'day of the week' it is
See what seems the best match for you, and you have immediately narrowed your scope of 'available dates' - good job!

Choose the season

Nature dictates the outdoor temperatures and the flora and fauna, and is one thing we cannot control, so best to plan around it. If you have a preference, now is when to factor it in. If it helps, assume you will spend (at least) one hour outside that day, does that work for you?

For example, if you can't take the heat, void peak summer dates. If cold really gets to you, cross out deep winter months. Does pollen make your crazy? Or maybe you find fall leaves depressing... plan ahead so you are in good shape for your big day.

Winter

Love those evergreens? Winter is there for you.

Does the cold really get to you? maybe you should skip this season.
Picture

Spring

Lush gardens may be a priority, then target spring/summer.

Are your allergies out of control, maybe a different time would be better.

Picture

Summer

Long days full of sunshine, and warm evenings.

If you are sensitive to heat, avoid those peak hot days.

Picture

Fall

Love the fall colors, October is your game.

Do falling leaves depress you, choose another time of year.

Dates of Significance

You may want to couple your wedding date with another event or choose to keep it separate. We recommend considering these dates of significance to narrow your preferred wedding date.

Personal Dates

Do you want to get married on the same day you met? or the day you got engaged or another special day in your relationship.
Picture

Family Considerations

These are things only you and your partner will know – your mom’s birthday, your sister’s wedding anniversary, etc.
Picture

Religious Holidays

Easter, Christmas, Diwali, Eid, Ramadan, Passover, Yom Kippur
You may want to couple your wedding to a holiday, or avoid overlapping, your choice.

If religions practices are playing a prominent role, you may want to start here.
Picture

National / Local Festivals

[For Americans] Memorial Day, Labor Day Weekend, Thanksgiving
These are often  at a premium.
Festivals like Coachella, Gay Pride.
Sporting Events like the Superbowl, Wimbledon, World Cup, Olympics.

Location, Location, Location

Just like in real estate, location dictates a lot of things. Here are some locations couples often consider as they select where to have their wedding.
Picture

Local

You can have your wedding in the city that you live in, close to home.
Picture

Destination

A far off location may be your dream location to say your vows.
Picture

Hometown

Head back to where your family is, you go to them instead of them coming to you.
Picture

Favorite Place

Your ideal location is your ideal location, there is a big wide world out there, what speaks to you?
