Planning a South Asian event at your home...
This one is for you!

Best practices for functions at home:

Shoes

Use cubby boxes at entry points so guests have a place to keep their shoes. (There are affordable shoe cubby boxes.) It helps in a big way.

Bathrooms

Place a sign on bathrooms for guests. Also make sure they have working locks, refills of toilet paper, soap, and a hand towel.

Trash

Additional trash cans allow tables to be cleared and reused.

Save the Carpet

Indian food or henna can stain. Use sheets (ideally rubber lined sheets) for a first line of defense against spills. Be sure to overlap the sheets by a foot. As people walk the sheets will shift slightly with the movement and the overlap will prevent exposed carpet.

Flow

Take  moment to think through the flow of guests. Where will they enter, eat, drink, socialize, sit, dance. And plan accordingly with things such as not putting food and drinks right next to each, and having chairs for elderly guests.
